Lukla is famous around the world for its airport. Lukla is a town in Solukhumbu District, and the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, named for the first Everest summiteers, is the starting point for all treks and expeditions into the Everest region. The town is located at an altitude of 2,860 meters, and the small airport is quite famous for its short uphill landing strip. It is situated in the Khumbu region of East Nepal.
